Surveillance firm Flock had planned a partnership with dashcam company Nexar to passively collect license plate data from approximately 350,000 vehicles operated by Uber, Lyft, and other delivery services, according to a presentation submitted to the Georgia Office of the Attorney General.[1] The collaboration would have enabled Flock to significantly expand its vehicle tracking network by tapping into existing camera infrastructure across rideshare fleets.[1]
The presentation, submitted in August of last year, outlined the company's ambitions to leverage driver-operated dashcams for surveillance purposes.[1] Flock has since claimed that the partnership with Nexar was never actually executed.[1] However, it remains unclear whether Uber, Lyft, or the individual drivers working for those platforms would have been informed of such data collection efforts.[1] The disclosure adds to Flock's documented history of surveillance partnerships, including prior collaborations with Ring and assistance provided to Immigration and Customs Enforcement in accessing security camera footage from retailers including Lowe's and Home Depot.[1]
