The U.S. State Department announced that the "pilot zone operation" has commenced in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh as well as the villages of Froun and Srifa 1. The Israeli Defense Force confirmed it will adjust its troop deployment in one of the pilot areas to permit Lebanese military operations 1.
According to Israeli military officials, the objective of the operation is to disarm Hezbollah and remove its illegal weapons 1. Israel maintains a military presence in border security zones to protect its northern communities 1.
