A robbery and murder case from 1994 has concluded with dramatically different outcomes for three fugitives who evaded capture for three decades.[1] On April 15, 1994, 27-year-old motorcycle taxi driver Li Mouping was robbed and killed by Dai Moujiao, He Mohu, and Zheng Mouping near the old train station in Luoyang, Hunan Province.[1] The three suspects remained at large until March 2024, when police apprehended them in succession.[1]
The case took an unexpected turn when Zheng Mouping voluntarily surrendered on July 13, 2019, but subsequently died from a fall on June 5, 2024, leading authorities to terminate his investigation.[1] On August 5, 2026, the Luoyang Intermediate People's Court handed down its first-instance verdict: Dai Moujiao was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, while He Mohu received a life sentence for the robbery charge.[1] Both defendants were ordered to pay joint compensation exceeding 50,000 yuan and to refund the motorcycle valued at 5,320 yuan.[1] He Mohu announced his intention to appeal the ruling in court.[1]
The victim's family has expressed dissatisfaction with the sentences, filing a protest application and requesting that the court impose immediate execution of the death penalty on both surviving defendants.[1]
