Four additional areas of England have been declared in drought status, bringing the total to 11 regions across England and the entire nation of Wales now experiencing drought conditions.[1] These newly designated drought areas include the East Midlands, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, Kent and East Sussex, and the Solent and South Downs.[1] The Environment Agency has reported that 71.3 percent of England has experienced a "flash drought," and July marked England's driest month on record.[1]
Temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid-30s Celsius by Thursday, with some areas potentially exceeding 36 degrees Celsius.[1] Thursday's expected highs include 29 degrees Celsius in Cardiff, 28 degrees Celsius in Manchester, and 25 degrees Celsius in London.[1]
