Iran's Supreme Leader has undertaken a significant reorganization of the country's military and political establishment, appointing senior officials to key positions in what analysts view as a broader strategic realignment.[1] Among the appointments, Ali Abdollahzadeh was named Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Ahmad Vahidi became Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and Mohsen Rezaei was appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.[1]
Rezaei brings extensive experience to his new role, having served as Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps from 1981 to 1997 and subsequently as Vice President overseeing economic affairs.[1] CNN has interpreted the military leadership reshuffle as an indication that Iran continues to maintain a hardline position regarding negotiations with the United States.[1]
