Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh is set to challenge Australian competitor Ariarne Titmus' world record in the 200-meter freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships taking place in California.[1] McIntosh, who won three individual gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, currently holds world records in every event she competes in except the 200-meter freestyle.[1] Titmus' standing record in that discipline is 1:52.23.[1]
McIntosh's best performance in the 200-meter freestyle to date came at the 2023 World Championships, where she earned a bronze medal with a time of 1:53.65.[1] The Canadian swimmer's current world records include the 200-meter butterfly at 2:01.65, the 400-meter freestyle at 3:54.18, the 200-meter individual medley at 2:05.70, and the 400-meter individual medley at 4:23.65.[1] Should she successfully break Titmus' record, McIntosh would join Australian swimming legend Shane Gould in holding world records across multiple events.[1] McIntosh trains under Bob Bowman, the coach who previously guided Michael Phelps.[1] The 200-meter freestyle final is scheduled for Wednesday at the Pan Pacific Championships.[1]
