A New South Wales court has intervened to prevent a company from destroying personal files stored on a Canva account by a former employee, marking an early application of Australia's updated privacy legislation.1 Judge Matthew Charles Leckie Dicker approved a temporary injunction blocking The Art Scene from erasing documents belonging to Adriana Nehme, who had used her Canva Pro account to store sensitive personal information including medical records, legal documents, financial data, and identity verification materials.1
Nehme created the Canva Pro account in 2020 using her personal email and payment method, though she later switched to paying with her work credit card from July 2023 until July 2025.1 She had granted another employee access to a shared team folder within the account, though without administrative or ownership privileges.1 After Canva sent account change notifications in July 2026, Nehme lost access to her personal files within the platform.1 The judge noted that the apparent privacy breach seemed to be intentional,1 leading to the interim protection order. A further hearing on the matter is scheduled for July 22.1
