Mark Zuckerberg's yacht, the Launchpad, failed to respond to a U.S. Coast Guard radio call requesting assistance for a vessel that had run out of fuel in southeastern Alaskan waters near Farragut Bay [1]. Despite being positioned closer to the stranded boat than other nearby vessels, the Launchpad did not answer the initial call [1]. The smaller cruise ship Wilderness Legacy ultimately towed the disabled vessel into Farragut Bay and provided fuel [1].
A spokesperson for Zuckerberg addressed the incident, stating that the yacht's crew did not hear the Coast Guard's initial call on the radio frequency they were operating [1]. According to the statement, "Mark and his family were not on board at the time of the incident. As the Coast Guard noted, the boat was not in distress, and by the time the crew reviewed the Coast Guard contact on a different radio channel from the one they were operating on, the assist was already underway. We're grateful all parties are safe" [1]. However, Michael Love, a passenger aboard the Wilderness Legacy, offered a different account, saying "Our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night and apparently we did that after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg's yacht — which was closer — and they repeatedly refused to respond" [1].
