Typhoon "Baiji" made landfall twice in Zhejiang on August 9, moving northwest at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour while gradually weakening in intensity.[1] The Central Meteorological Administration forecasts the system will continue its northwestward movement across the region.[1] Over the coming three days, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Henan, and Hebei will experience continuous, widespread heavy rainfall.[1]
Experts emphasize that public attention should extend beyond tracking the typhoon's path and landfall timing. Wind and rain protection, as well as prevention of flooding, landslides, and mudslides, are critical priorities during typhoon conditions.[1] Even weakened typhoons can produce intense precipitation, presenting significant flood risks.[1] When urban waterlogging occurs, residents should avoid wading through water and stay away from electrical equipment.[1] Drivers face particular danger, as water depths of 20 to 25 centimeters can cause engine water damage in ordinary sedans, while accumulation of 60 centimeters typically results in vehicle stalling and flotation.[1]
Chief forecaster Xu Jun of the Central Meteorological Administration urges the public to monitor real-time updates on typhoon trajectory and intensity issued by meteorological authorities.[1] Yang Kun, deputy director of the Flood and Drought Disaster Mitigation Center at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydroelectric Research, advises that during heavy rainfall, people should avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and refrain from wading through water.[1]
