Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has published an extensive manifesto titled "The Future Is for Everyone," laying out his philosophical framework for artificial intelligence development and distribution.[1][3] In the more than 6,500-word statement, Zuckerberg argues that superintelligent AI should be widely dispersed rather than concentrated among a small number of institutions, companies, or governments.[2] "If AI superintelligence ultimately ends up being controlled by a small number of individuals, corporations, governments, or by 'AI itself,' that will naturally lead to outcomes that are less favorable for everyone else," Zuckerberg warned.[2]
Zuckerberg anchors his vision on three core principles: personal empowerment as the source of prosperity, invention as the primary purpose of superintelligence, and power balance as the foundation of safety.[1] He asserts that constraining the principle of "distillation"—the practice of distilling larger models into smaller, more accessible ones—would undermine American technological leadership.[2] To realize this vision, Meta is developing personal superintelligent agents offering round-the-clock assistance, creative tools, personalized tutoring, and scientific research support, with versions to be provided free or at low cost to billions of users globally.[1] The company also plans to implement a fully private mode using end-to-end encryption similar to WhatsApp, ensuring that even Meta cannot access user information.[1]
Alongside the manifesto, Meta released the lightweight open-source AI model Muse Glimmer with a permissive open-source license, while providing developers access to the more powerful Muse Spark 1.2 model.[2]
Meta has committed to tangible community benefits.[1] Teachers in Richland Parish, Louisiana received $50,000 bonuses this year following Meta's data center investment in the region.[1] The company has established the American Workforce Academy to provide free training and secure high-wage employment opportunities for skilled tradespeople.[1] Additionally, Meta has pledged to supplement water usage in its operating regions by more than 200 percent by 2030.[1]
