A former Thai member of parliament has been arrested following the fatal shooting of a local official in a government office near Bangkok.[1][2] Chalong Reawraeng allegedly shot Thongchai Yenprasert, who served as chairman of an administrative organization, in the neck.[1][2] Thongchai died at a hospital, while his driver sustained injuries to his arm and hand.[1][2]
According to authorities, Chalong confessed to firing the weapon during a YouTube livestream with political commentator Anchalee Paireerak.[1] The incident reportedly stemmed from a long-standing loan dispute, with Thongchai having owed Chalong several million baht over years without repayment.[2] However, Chalong claimed the shooting was not intentional, stating that he drew his gun during a confrontation at Thongchai's vehicle but fired only after the driver pulled a weapon and pointed it toward him.[1][2] In his own account, Chalong recounted: "I followed him to his car, knocked on his window, and said I wanted to talk. He said he would not talk, so I drew my gun. I did not intend to shoot, but his driver drew his gun and pointed it at me, so I opened fire."[2]
