Typhoon Bailu has brought severe weather across eastern China, triggering emergency responses across multiple provinces and municipalities.[1] The storm made landfall twice along the coasts of Yuhuang and Leqing in Zhejiang on the evening of August 9, before continuing its destructive path inland.[1]
On August 10, Kunshan in Jiangsu Province upgraded its heavy rainfall warning to red alert status.[1] The city is expected to experience extreme precipitation with hourly rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters.[1] The typhoon's impact has extended far beyond initial predictions, affecting over a dozen provinces and regions including Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Zhejiang.[1] Eastern Zhejiang faces heightened geological disaster risks, with an orange-level warning issued for the region.[1]
Typhoon Bailu demonstrated exceptional longevity, traveling over 6,000 kilometers before making landfall, with a lifespan more than three times longer than that of a typical typhoon.[1] In response to the widespread threat, China's National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Management activated a Level 4 national emergency response for disaster relief operations.[1]
