Major Robert "Magyar" Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's drone forces, told AP that accelerated Western military aid could dramatically escalate strike operations against Crimea.[1] According to Brovdi, the Ukrainian drone unit currently operates at only 14 percent of its required operational capacity, a limitation that constrains the scope of potential targets.[1] If funding arrived more quickly, Ukraine could expand attacks to hit "seven times" more objectives in the contested peninsula.[1]
Ukraine has launched a summer offensive campaign against Crimea beginning in late June, during which it has destroyed more than 300 air defense assets while also targeting critical infrastructure including railway bridges, oil storage facilities, and power installations.[1] Brovdi indicated plans to continue strikes against Russian military logistics platforms, specifically mentioning Wildberries as an ongoing target.[1] The commander also noted that the concentration of Shahed drones in the region has increased two and a half times in recent weeks, presenting both a threat and an indicator of Russian force posture.[1]
The escalating drone campaign occurs against a backdrop of intensifying Russian missile capabilities, with Moscow planning to increase simultaneously-launched ballistic missiles from 77 to 200 warheads.[1] In one measure of current attrition, Brovdi reported that four major Russian missile barrages collectively fired only 5 missiles, suggesting significant losses to Ukraine's air defense efforts.[1]
