Kalshi, a prediction market platform, has imposed a lifetime ban on former U.S. Representative George Santos following allegations that he engaged in insider trading using non-public information related to his attendance at the State of the Union address.1 Between February 2 and 25, Santos placed a series of substantial bets concerning his State of the Union attendance, ultimately profiting $17,839.57 from the trades, which the platform determined violated its trading rules.1
As a result of the violations, Kalshi levied a $71,356 fine against Santos.1 Additionally, Santos agreed to pay $35,000 to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as part of a settlement.1 The case was referred to federal authorities in the summer of 2025.1 Santos had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of wire fraud and identity theft, but was pardoned by President Trump after serving three months.1
