The "Peach Blossom Spring—Zhu Xingjian Art Exhibition" opened at the Shenzhen Art Museum on August 28, marking the largest exhibition to date of the late artist's work 1. The show, which will run through October 25 and is free to the public, features nearly three hundred pieces spanning Zhu Xingjian's artistic career, including figure paintings, landscapes, birds-and-flowers compositions, still lifes, calligraphy, oils, and manuscripts 1.
The exhibition is organized into four thematic units titled "Playing Bad Chess, Reading Books to Pieces," "Composing Poor Verse, Painting Wildly," "Living Carefreely in Chaos," and "Living Like Immortals" 1. Together, these sections trace Zhu's evolution from his early uninhibited creative period through his later years of left-handed painting following a stroke in early 2008 1. The artist, who left government service to become a full-time painter in 1988, worked until his death on February 10, 2014, at age 61 1. The exhibition is supervised academically by Professor Zhao Li, Vice Dean of the School of Art Management and Education at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and curated by Liu Lin, Associate Editor of the Chinese Ink Painting Yearbook 1. Accompanying the show are scholarly seminars and multiple public education programs 1.
