Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey have concluded a new multilateral defense agreement establishing collective security commitments among the three nations.[1] The Mecca Joint Defense Pact, signed on Friday, stipulates that an armed attack against any one member shall be considered an attack against all.[1] Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were the signatories to the accord.[1]
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar characterized the pact as "purely defensive in nature" and emphasized that it remains open to other countries in the region, clarifying that the agreement targets no specific nation.[1] Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reinforced this position, explicitly stating the pact is not directed at Iran or any other country.[1] The new trilateral accord complements an earlier bilateral mutual defense agreement that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia finalized in September 2025.[1]
