The inaugural "LiuBA" National Left-Behind Children's Basketball Charity Initiative concluded in Shenzhen, bringing together rural basketball teams for a competition that blended athletic competition with cultural exchange and personal connection.12 Organized jointly by Southern Metropolis Daily and Beijing Yuanwang Charity Foundation, the event selected six representative teams from more than 600 rural children's basketball squads across the nation to compete at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre Gymnasium.1
The participating teams hailed from Qingyang in Gansu, Henan, Yizhang in Hunan, Shangli in Jiangxi, Gapu in Dongguan, and Huazhou in Guangdong.1 Arriving in Shenzhen on August 27, the young athletes competed on August 29, with the Guangdong Maoming team claiming the championship title and teammate Liang Diming earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.12 The Guangdong Dongguan team finished as runner-up, while the Jiangxi Pingxiang team secured third place.2 The Henan Xinxiang team finished fourth, and teams from Gansu Qingyang and Hunan Chenzhou received distinction awards.2
Beyond the court, the event created meaningful moments of reunion and exploration.2 A Guangxi youth named Chen Yingguang reunited with his parents in the stands, and Su Zihang's father from the Jiangxi Pingxiang team traveled dozens of kilometers from Shenzhen specifically to watch his son play.2 On August 30, an all-star "LiuBA team" composed of outstanding players from all six squads faced off in a friendly match against the "Runba Youth team," followed by visits to local science museums and coastal areas.2 The evening of August 29 saw the teams gather for a collective birthday celebration honoring over a dozen athletes with August and September birthdays.2 The initiative also included a "Hometown Showcase" segment highlighting local specialty products and intangible cultural heritage from each region.1
