Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance's Qingdao branch has introduced China's first commodity exchange-subsidized "insurance plus futures" income protection product for hog farmers, with the initial policy deployed in Laixi, Shandong province [1]. This innovative coverage marks the first time hog farmers receive dual protection against both price and production volume fluctuations [1]. The product utilizes futures markets to hedge risks and compensates farmers when actual income falls below a guaranteed threshold, creating a financial safety net for livestock operations [1].
The pilot policy guarantees protection at 1,413.25 yuan per head, considering typical production costs of approximately 1,400 yuan per pig and current market prices exceeding 5 yuan per pound [1]. Xu Ruijie's farming operation became the initial subscriber, insuring more than 2,500 hogs under the new scheme [1]. Laixi, a major production hub, raises approximately 600,000 hogs annually [1]. The product was jointly developed by Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance's Qingdao branch and Shenyin Wanguo Futures beginning in May of this year, following a March directive from the Financial Regulatory Administration, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs promoting high-quality hog insurance development [1].
