President Trump has again criticized Washington D.C. District Attorney Jeanine Pirro over her office's handling of a case involving the Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool.[1] Trump stated that "She said there was no vandalism. There was tremendous vandalism," expressing disagreement with Pirro's characterization of the damage.[1]
Pirro's office submitted a 20-page court filing arguing that the damage to the reflecting pool resulted from a "botched" renovation rather than intentional vandalism, and moved to dismiss vandalism charges against several defendants including former Olympic athlete David Hearn.[1] The reflecting pool renovation project cost $15 million.[1] Trump met with Pirro and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum in the Oval Office on Monday in what was described as an intense discussion regarding the matter.[1]
Following the dismissal of his felony property destruction charges, Hearn's attorney indicated the legal team would explore all available options, including potential civil litigation, bar referrals, and requests for attorney's fees reimbursement.[1] Trump did not indicate whether he planned to replace Pirro in her position.[1]
