Satellite imagery reveals that Israeli military forces are rapidly constructing an extensive earthen barrier spanning more than 23 kilometers (14 miles) inside the Gaza Strip. 1 The barrier divides territory controlled by Israel from the remainder of the Palestinian enclave, with Israeli forces now controlling over 50 percent of Gaza's landmass. 12
The barrier is positioned along the so-called "Yellow Line," the demarcation established under a ceasefire agreement reached in October, which was intended to mark the boundary for Israeli military withdrawal. 1 Despite this agreement designating the line as a temporary boundary, the Israeli military has confirmed the barrier's existence and has established "security zones" equipped with intelligence and technological assets around the perimeter. 1
Gaza's population of approximately 2 million people faces potential permanent territorial division by the structure, with more than half residing west of the Yellow Line in coastal areas. 1 Since the ceasefire began, Israeli forces have been responsible for more than 1,100 Palestinian deaths. 1
