Lindian Resources has secured an option to purchase 13,389 tonnes of heavy rare earth minerals from the Aktau deposit in Kazakhstan through an agreement with RA-Group LLP, with the material intended for processing at its SARECO hydrometallurgical facility 1. Of this initial volume, 7,549 tonnes are ready for shipment while 5,840 tonnes remain in the drying phase 1. The deal includes an additional exclusive 12-month purchasing pathway for 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes of transitional mixed ore 1.
Under the terms of the arrangement, RA-Group LLP will receive A$30.72 million (US$22 million) in Lindian equity, comprising US$15 million in fully paid ordinary shares and US$7 million in milestone performance rights 1. Lindian acquired full ownership of SARECO in August 2026, having announced the joint venture framework with RA-Group the previous March 1. The processing facility, established in 2012 by Kazatomprom and Sumitomo Corporation, operates in Stepnogorsk in central Kazakhstan 1.
The strategic move complements Lindian's light rare earth production at its Kangankunde project in Malawi, creating a diversified portfolio across both light and heavy rare earth elements 1. According to Zac Komur, Kangankunde provides "strong neodymium-praseodymium exposure," while Aktau enables the company to "add dysprosium, terbium and yttrium to the product mix through SARECO" 1. Kangankunde is targeting first production in the fourth quarter of 2026 1.
