Typhoon Saola made landfall in Zhejiang on August 28 and subsequently weakened into a residual circulation system 1. The remnants entered the South China Sea on August 31, where China's Central Meteorological Administration warned they could merge with tropical disturbances in the region and potentially redevelop into a tropical depression or even reform as a typhoon 1.
As of 5 a.m. on August 31, the center of the residual circulation was located at 20.7 degrees north latitude and 110.4 degrees east longitude, in the nearshore waters east of Leizhou in Guangdong Province 1. The system is expected to move southward and then eastward at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour 1. Impacts from the circulation are forecast to bring heavy to severe rainfall across multiple provinces including Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Fujian, and Hainan from 8 a.m. on August 31 through 8 a.m. on September 1 1.
