Germany faces escalating hybrid warfare attacks that have become a routine threat to the country, according to Interior Minister Dobrindt's warning issued on August 9.[1] The official stated: "We are not in a war, but we are a daily target of hybrid warfare."[1]
The warning came following the discovery of explosive-laden drones at multiple locations. Two unmanned aircraft were detected over the Mainz military base in North Rhine-Westphalia on the evening of August 8, around 10 p.m.[1] Additionally, a drone carrying explosives was found at Leipzig/Halle Airport, reportedly targeted at a Ukrainian transport aircraft.[1]
In response to these incidents, Germany plans to establish a new drone security research center in Saxony-Anhalt in late August to address the emerging threat.[1] The Russian Embassy in Berlin has denied involvement in the incidents, dismissing the allegations as lacking evidence.[1]
