Seeds of Peace
Seeds of Peace, an international summer camp dedicated to fostering dialogue among young people from conflict-affected areas, held its first program in the United Kingdom this year in Devon.[1] The three-week initiative brought together 14- to 17-year-old participants from eight countries, including Israel, Palestine, India, Pakistan, Jordan, and the UK.[1] Attendees engaged in two hours of structured dialogue daily, during which they shared personal experiences and trauma while seeking common ground across their divides.[1]
The camp charges 9,000 US dollars (6,700 British pounds) for participation, though most attendees received scholarships covering the majority of their fees.[1]
The program, founded by American journalist John Wallach, has operated for three decades since its establishment in 1993.[1] Over that period, Seeds of Peace has conducted similar initiatives in the Balkans, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and Afghanistan.[1]
Participants reported that their experience proved transformative, enabling them to move beyond stereotypes and develop the capacity to understand and communicate across differences.[1] Eva Armour, the organization's executive director, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating: "We need to invest in this work even a fraction of what we're investing in the aftermath of war."[1]
