The event proceeded despite environmental concerns when organizers suspended training on Thursday after detecting hydrocarbon traces upstream.[1][2] Following remediation of the affected area, training and competition resumed on Friday, with the final rounds and medal events scheduled for Saturday.[1] The championships feature over 1,000 athletes competing across five disciplines: swimming, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and high diving.[1]
Paris has invested 1.4 billion euros in renovating the Seine for recreational swimming and athletic use.[1] Swimming had been prohibited in the river since 1923, with public swimming not resuming until 2025.[1] In July alone, approximately 70,000 people utilized Paris's designated Seine swimming areas.[1]
