Brazil's National Association of Automobile Manufacturers released data showing robust growth across the country's automotive sector for the first seven months of the year. Domestic vehicle production reached 1.6261 million units, marking an 8.3% year-over-year increase, while new car sales totaled 1.7 million vehicles, up 17.9% compared to the same period last year.[1]
The surge was largely driven by the electric vehicle market, which experienced exceptional momentum. New energy vehicle sales climbed 120.8% year-over-year during the first seven months, and in July alone, EVs accounted for 23.5% of new car sales, setting a historical record.[1] Pure electric vehicles achieved particular success, with July sales reaching 25,800 units, marking a single-month peak.[1] This growth positioned Brazil's automotive production among the world's fastest-expanding markets, ranking second globally with an 8.3% increase, behind only India's 14.5% growth rate.[1]
July proved to be the strongest month for overall sales, with 279,500 new vehicles sold—a 14.9% increase from the prior year and the highest single-month figure for 2026.[1] However, the sector faced headwinds in international trade. Automobile exports declined 20.8% to 255,900 units, while imports surged 25.7% to 344,100 units during the seven-month period.[1] Despite export pressures, the association's president, Igor Calvetti, emphasized that Brazil's automotive industry continued to achieve robust growth.[1]
