Cambridge University academics have rejected the institution's handling of a controversy surrounding Professor Jason Arday, demanding an independent investigation instead.[1] Arday, who was celebrated as Cambridge's youngest Black professor three and a half years ago, resigned on Wednesday following questions about his personal and professional reputation.[1]
In a letter to Vice-Chancellor Deborah Prentice, members of the academic community called for an independent body to conduct a transparent inquiry into the matter.[1] The dispute involves allegations related to plagiarism, charitable fundraising, and other questions concerning Arday's standing.[1] The university announced it would review its senior academic recruitment procedures in response, but this step fell short of what scholars were seeking.[1] Cambridge has denied providing assistance to Arday in preventing critical coverage by Times Higher Education or funding his legal costs.[1] Jesus College has also cancelled a parallel investigation it had planned to undertake.[1]
