电影《欢迎来龙餐馆》美术指导李淼在接受新京报专访时介绍，该片的筹备与拍摄共历时一年半1。李淼表示，美术置景重在营造“心理真实”，因为“完整复刻不见得是最好的，要想尽办法为观众营造一种心理真实”1。为呈现中东战争与美食交织的故事，剧组放弃了海外拍摄方案，在国内搭建了超10万平方米、包含200余栋建筑的实景街区1。
在具体场景搭建上，团队在宁夏石嘴山市石炭井搭建了一棵16.5米高的千年古树，从搭建到拍摄耗时五六个月1。为了配合长镜头拍摄并设置暗门等机关，“龙餐馆”的内景被特意搭建在户外而非摄影棚内1。此外，电影中的中东人大多数由埃及演员出演，剧组还在埃及黑沙漠拍摄了单峰驼奔跑的镜头，海外拍摄戏份不超过整个片子的5%1。在菜品设计方面，团队面试厨师后组建了美食小组，耗时三四个月开发出40余道体现角色命运的菜品1。
In an exclusive interview with Beijing News In-Depth, Li Miao, the art director of the film "Welcome to the Dragon Restaurant," detailed the extensive production design required to intertwine a story of Middle Eastern war and culinary arts 1. To achieve this, the production team abandoned the plan to shoot overseas and instead built a massive practical set in China, covering over 100,000 square meters and featuring more than 200 buildings 1. The crew also filmed some scenes abroad, capturing dromedary camels running in the Black Desert of Egypt, with overseas shooting accounting for no more than 5% of the entire film 1. Additionally, the majority of the Middle Eastern characters in the movie were portrayed by Egyptian actors 1.
The production design involved specific constructions, such as building a 16.5-meter-tall thousand-year-old tree in Shitanjing, Shizuishan, Ningxia, which took five to six months from construction to filming 1. For the interior of the "Dragon Restaurant," the set was built outdoors rather than inside a soundstage to accommodate long-take shots and to allow for the installation of hidden doors and other mechanisms 1. Beyond the physical sets, the team interviewed chefs and formed a dedicated culinary group, spending three to four months developing over 40 dishes that reflect the destinies of the characters 1.
The overall production, from preparation to the completion of filming, took a year and a half 1. Reflecting on the project, Li emphasized the philosophy behind their artistic choices, stating, "A complete replica is not necessarily the best; we must try our best to create a psychological reality for the audience" 1.
