Miriam Sim, who had lived in the community since 2005, surveyed the devastation with her husband Daniel Sim, a physician to whom she has been married for 56 years.[1] Before immigrating, Sim worked as a nurse in the Philippines.[1] When speaking to reporters about the loss, Sim described the scene starkly: "It's like a war zone... there's nothing to save."[1] The photograph was captured using a Sony A1 camera with a 16-35mm lens set at f/4.5 aperture.[1]
