Iran's parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy is reviewing a strategic management plan for the Strait of Hormuz that would prohibit vessels from the United States, Israel, and other nations deemed hostile by Tehran from passing through the waterway [1]. The proposal also targets military and civilian cargo associated with Israel, as well as ships or cargo involved in operations against what Iran refers to as the "Axis of Resistance" [1].
Under the proposed framework, countries and individuals that have caused losses to Iran would be barred from obtaining transit permission through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf until they have completed compensation for such damages [1]. Violators of the regulations would face fines of up to 20 percent of the cargo's value [1]. Meanwhile, Iran and Oman continue to negotiate a new framework for managing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz [1].
