The National Ocean Forecasting Center has issued a wave warning in response to Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th typhoon of the year [1]. The warning encompasses multiple sea regions across eastern China over a four-day period beginning August 6.
Wave conditions are expected to escalate progressively across affected areas [1]. From August 6 through August 7 morning, the eastern East China Sea will experience waves of 6 to 10 meters with orange alert status, while waters off Zhejiang province will see 2 to 3-meter waves at blue alert level [1]. The situation will intensify from August 7 through August 8 morning, with the East China Sea reaching 7 to 12 meters and Zhejiang's coastal waters climbing to 3 to 5 meters, both at orange alert level [1]. The most severe conditions are forecast from August 8 through August 9 morning, when Zhejiang's coastal waters will experience 4.5 to 6.5-meter waves at the highest red alert level, while Shanghai and northern Fujian will face 3 to 4.5-meter waves at orange alert level [1].
In response to the anticipated hazardous conditions, relevant authorities have mandated that all vessels return to port and seek shelter, water-based recreational activities be suspended, and that aquaculture facilities and port infrastructure be reinforced [1].
