The 2026 Cross-Strait Community Exchange Festival held its opening ceremony in Beijing, drawing more than 500 Taiwanese attendees.[1] The event, now in its fifth year, operates under the theme "Hundred Organizations Hand in Hand, Hundred Flowers in Bloom," featuring diverse programs spanning culture, technology, biomedicine, grassroots governance, and youth seminars.[1]
Former Kuomintang Vice Chairman Hsia Li-yan emphasized the critical role of civil exchanges in fostering mutual understanding, stating that "the more challenging the cross-strait situation becomes, the more civil exchanges are needed to enhance comprehension."[1] Zhang Zhijun, chairman of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, called on Taiwan's various sectors to enter the mainland and deepen their knowledge of it, underscoring that strengthening people-to-people exchanges would help build consensus.[1] The gathering also coincides with the 160th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth.[1]
