Australian broadcaster Alan Jones is facing trial in Sydney on allegations of intimate misconduct, with his legal team contesting the accounts presented by prosecution witnesses.[1][3] Jones, 85 years old and formerly a presenter at radio station 2GB, is charged with 20 counts of indecent assault and 2 counts of sexual assault without consent.[3] He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.[1]
During cross-examination, the defence has disputed the testimony of the first of six complainants set to give evidence.[3] The defence team argued that a prosecution witness fabricated details about alleged inappropriate sexual contact that occurred at Jones's property in Fitzroy Falls in the early 2000s, suggesting the complainant invented intimate particulars with the intent to humiliate and defame the broadcaster.[1] One complainant told the court he was afraid to report the alleged abuse at the time, stating: "He is a powerful man, and if I told anyone, no one would believe me."[3] The complainant also revealed that Jones had provided him with gifts including a mobile phone, a vehicle, and weekly financial support of between AUD 400 and 600.[3] The complainant reported the allegations to police in November 2024, following Jones's arrest on separate charges involving kissing and touching allegations involving other males.[3] The trial is expected to continue until close to Christmas.[3]
