Several Chinese cities have rolled out enhanced vehicle purchase incentive programs this year to stimulate automotive consumption. Yulin in Shaanxi Province introduced new energy vehicle subsidies ranging from 5,000 to 12,000 yuan, covering new cars, used vehicles, and trade-in replacements [1]. Xi'an launched its subsidy scheme on August 1st, offering 2 percent of invoice price (capped at 10,000 yuan) for new energy passenger vehicles, with newly launched models eligible for subsidies up to 13,000 yuan; used vehicle subsidies are set at 1.5 percent of invoice price with a maximum of 4,000 yuan [1]. The Xi'an program remains in effect through October 8th [1].
The incentive measures have already demonstrated measurable results in driving consumer demand. Dealerships in Xi'an reported a 15 percent month-over-month increase in sales volume [1]. In Qingdao, the city released a 250 million yuan trade-in subsidy allocation through August 2026, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis [1]. By early August, Qingdao's various consumer-boosting automotive activities had generated over 2 billion yuan in vehicle consumption [1].
