Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami on Saturday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. 1 The brothers are being held on the basis of sealed warrants as British authorities seek their extradition to face allegations of rape and human trafficking spanning from 2010 to 2017. 1
British prosecutors have brought 19 charges against the Tate brothers, including rape, human trafficking, profiting from prostitution, and offenses related to child sexual abuse material and extreme pornography. 1 The allegations involve a total of seven victims, three of whom had been publicly identified previously, with four additional victims identified in the new charges. 1
The brothers' attorney, Joseph McBride, characterized the additional charges as "defamatory" and suggested they are intended to obstruct a defamation lawsuit the Tates had initiated in the United States. 1
