Florida Democratic candidate Pia Dandiya has shifted her campaign strategy in response to Governor Ron DeSantis's redistricting initiative, moving from her original race in the state's 21st district to compete in the newly configured 22nd district instead.[1] Dandiya had initially planned to challenge Republican Representative Brian Mast in the 21st district, but the redistricting prompted her to pursue the alternative path.[1]
The 22nd district represents what Democrats view as one of their strongest opportunities to reclaim a House seat in the state.[1] Dandiya's campaign has already garnered substantial support from party leadership, including backing from Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried and U.S. Representative Lois Frankel.[1] The Democratic National Committee has also designated her as part of its Red to Blue program, a key initiative to flip Republican-held seats.[1] Her campaign has raised over $2 million to date.[1] Dandiya will face attorney Caseyia Earley in the August 18 primary.[1]
