Residents express both determination and frustration regarding their situation. "We don't want to be their slaves," said community member Javier Hernandez.[1] Another resident, Jesus Dominguez, stated that "the government doesn't care about us, and our armed forces can't possibly compete with the gang."[1] According to a 2025 DEA report, five criminal organizations operate in Guerrero state.[1]
