Ukraine has conducted drone attacks against two oil refineries located far within Russian territory, targeting Moscow's petroleum revenues.[1] The two facilities hit were Bashneft-Novoil, situated approximately 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, and Slavneft-Yanos, roughly 700 kilometers from the border.[1] The Slavneft-Yanos refinery caught fire following the strike, with at least four people injured in the attack.[1]
The assault on the refineries formed part of a broader Ukrainian offensive that extended to the Black Sea region. Ukrainian forces struck military patrol boats and vessels from Russia's shadow fleet used for smuggling crude oil.[1] In response, Russia reported intercepting or shooting down 605 Ukrainian drones during the overnight operations.[1] The retaliatory strikes caused significant damage, leaving the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson without electricity across the entire city.[1] According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 11 people were killed in the Russian attacks, which involved both drones and cruise missiles.[1]
