AI music generation company Suno has announced a suite of new protective measures in response to ongoing legal challenges from major record labels.[1] The platform will deploy audio watermarking and fingerprinting technology to prevent generated songs from being misused on other streaming services.[1] Additionally, Suno has partnered with lyrics provider Musixmatch to implement its Sentinel system for copyright detection.[1]
The initiatives come as Suno faces lawsuits coordinated by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as well as separate actions from Universal Music Group and Sony Music Group.[1] In Germany, a court affiliated with GEMA ruled that Suno had violated copyright regulations.[1] The company also updated its community guidelines to explicitly prohibit deceptive audio presented as authentic recordings and the unauthorized use of real voices or likenesses.[1]
Suno raised $400 million in Series D funding in June 2025.[1] The company previously experienced a data breach in November 2025 that affected 55 million users.[1]
