Israeli prosecutors have indicted Inyan Levi, a settler, in connection with the July 2025 killing of Awdah Hathaleen, a Palestinian community leader and activist.[1] Levi faces charges of reckless manslaughter, armed trespassing, and malicious property destruction.[1]
The case marks a significant milestone in the Israeli legal system's response to violence in the occupied territory. According to human rights organization B'Tselem, this is the first criminal prosecution of an Israeli national for a Palestinian death in the West Bank since October 7, 2023.[1] The charges come amid a broader pattern of deadly violence in the region; Israeli settlers and soldiers have killed at least 1,100 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 7, 2023.[1]
Hathaleen, whose death occurred in Um al-Khair village, was featured in the 2025 Oscar-winning documentary "No Other Land."[1] Levi, who resides in the southern West Bank, had previously been sanctioned by the United States and other Western countries in 2024 for allegations of violence against Palestinians.[1]
