Jon Adgemis, a former KPMG partner and failed hospitality entrepreneur, is attempting to prevent public scrutiny of his company's massive insolvency through legal action in Australia's Federal Court.[1] His legal team, led by counsel Miles Condon SC, has argued that the examination process constitutes procedural abuse and has requested that the hearing be conducted in secret.[1] The court has scheduled a hearing on the abuse of process application for Friday morning, further delaying the examination proceedings.[1]
Adgemis's hospitality empire, Public Hospitality Group, accumulated debt of $1.8 billion.[1] He established the company in 2021 and acquired 22 properties across Sydney and Melbourne before securing a $400 million rescue package from Deutsche Bank in early 2024.[1] He declared bankruptcy in October 2023.[1] Andrew Yeo of Pitcher Partners has been appointed as the receiver in the insolvency.[1]
