China's embassy in Argentina has accused the United States of using visa revocations to obstruct Argentine companies from partnering with Huawei.[1] According to the Chinese diplomatic mission, the U.S. embassy in Argentina has taken steps to prevent local enterprises from engaging in collaboration with the Chinese telecommunications firm.[1]
Huawei has maintained a presence in Argentina since 2001 and has recently expanded its involvement across multiple sectors.[1] In March of this year, Cordoba Province's state power utility EPEC signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei to advance wireless private networks and smart power distribution systems.[1] In July, Huawei concluded an agreement with the Argentine Federation of Agrarian Cooperatives (AFA) to assist approximately 36,000 local farmers in undergoing digital transformation.[1]
Beijing characterized the alleged U.S. interference as fundamentally at odds with free market principles and international norms.[1] Chinese officials stated that the actions "fully reflect American arrogance and prejudice, representing grave disrespect for the sovereignty of other nations and serious damage to the principles of free markets."[1] The embassy called on the United States to "cease its hegemonic behavior and political manipulation."[1]
