On August 26, 2025, the General Administration of Customs of China published a list of newly registered packaging facilities and orchards for Taiwanese Wendan pomelos on its website 1. However, Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture stated that it has not yet received any official notification regarding this expansion 1. The ministry urged Beijing to communicate and consult through the cross-strait agricultural product inspection and quarantine cooperation agreement platform 1. Furthermore, the ministry pointed out that local farmers are facing significant risks because the mainland has not provided comprehensive quarantine specifications 1.
Previously, the mainland suspended the import of Taiwanese citrus fruits on August 3, 2022, before announcing the resumption of Taiwanese Wendan pomelo imports on September 2, 2024 1. The initial batch of approved facilities only included 45 orchards and 19 packaging plants in Hualien County 1. A subsequent announcement from the mainland indicated that a total of 174 orchards and 33 packaging facilities in the Hualien production area are now eligible for export to the mainland 1. Meanwhile, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, expressed welcome for more high-quality Taiwanese products to be sold in the mainland market 1.
