Shenzhen's Longhua District has undergone a significant identity shift from a peripheral urban area to a central strategic hub through the implementation of industrial planning and urban development initiatives.[1] The district's resident population has experienced explosive growth over the past decade, with net annual increases exceeding 40,000 people, bringing the registered population to 2.5289 million in 2021—a net addition of 1.1494 million since 2010.[1] The actual managed population in the district has now surpassed 3 million.[1]
The recently finalized master plan for a world-class semiconductor technology hub marks a turning point for the region's development trajectory.[1] The project encompasses approximately 200 square kilometers spanning both Longhua and Longgang districts, with Longhua's portion covering 115 square kilometers designated as a coordinated development zone.[1] Six advanced manufacturing projects with a combined investment of 2.5 billion yuan have been concentrated in this Longhua section, positioning the district to generate an industrial scale exceeding 100 billion yuan within five years of production launch.[1] This initiative creates a cross-district collaborative pattern encompassing design in Nanshan, manufacturing in Pingshan, packaging equipment in Longhua, and materials sourcing in Dongguan.[1]
By the end of 2025, Longhua's semiconductor industrial cluster has attracted 200 enterprises above designated size and 141 specialized and sophisticated enterprises, including 24 national-level specialized and sophisticated "little giant" companies.[1] More broadly, the district now hosts 182 national-level specialized and sophisticated "little giant" enterprises and over 4,100 national-level high-tech enterprises, with listed companies reaching 41.[1] Supporting these developments, the district has cultivated a skilled workforce of 570,000 people, established 29 master craftsman workshops, and recognized 61 individuals as "Longhua Artisans."[1]
