Iran has reached an agreement with Oman on shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, with negotiations moving into their final phase.[1] Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei announced that the two countries have agreed on the geographical coordinates of the shipping lane.[1] Deputy Foreign Minister Garibabadie stated that the new corridor will be temporary in nature, with an expected opening window of two to four months.[1]
Under the proposed arrangement, the new shipping route will consist primarily of Iranian territorial waters with portions extending into Omani waters, ensuring that commercial vessels must pass through Iranian territorial waters both entering and exiting.[2] The agreement involves closing a previously used temporary lane near Iran's Larak Island and the route crossing Omani territorial waters.[2] Iran has denied conducting any negotiations with the United States on this matter, emphasizing that the arrangement is a bilateral affair that should not be subject to external interference.[2] Iranian officials noted that U.S. port blockade measures against Iran remain a significant factor affecting regional security.[1] Meanwhile, the United States and Oman have not issued public statements in response to the announcement.[1]
