These security alerts come as Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, prepares for sentencing on November 20 in Manhattan federal court 1. Gupta pleaded guilty in February to federal conspiracy charges for his role in a 2023 plot to assassinate Pannun 1. According to the FBI, Gupta was directed by an Indian government employee to carry out the assassination and had contacted an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a hitman 1. Federal sentencing guidelines require Gupta to serve at least 20 years in prison 1.
