Two men from the Baltimore area have been arrested and charged with animal abuse and other crimes for allegedly conducting photography sessions involving wild animals without proper permits.[1] Vernon Crowfey III, 32, owner of Photogeniks, and Jayden Evans, 25, owner of Tarzan Exoticz, were taken into custody on July 16, 2024, in Towson, Maryland.[1] Each faces 23 misdemeanor and felony charges related to the illegal use of wildlife and fire during the photoshoots.[1]
The incident took place at the Towson Town Center parking garage, where the men allegedly used snakes, a lemur, a spider monkey, lizards, rabbits, and tarantulas as props for their exotic photography project.[1] According to authorities, the men violated the Animal Welfare Act by failing to obtain the Class C exhibitor or dealer license required by the US Department of Agriculture.[1] The lemur and spider monkey were subsequently transferred to the Maryland Zoo.[1] Crowfey claimed the men had discussed their plans with mall security, stating: "We and mall security talked. We explained that we were going to do flame photography shooting. He told us basically to leave before the mall closed."[1]
