Rukhsar Ahmed, a former Pakistani provincial minister and current member of parliament, was arrested on July 18, 2024, at Manchester Airport on suspicion of rape and human trafficking offenses alleged to have occurred in the 1990s.[1] The charges relate to attacks on at least two women during the early 1990s, when Ahmed was in his twenties and allegedly involved in a daycare abuse case in Manchester's Rusholme area.[1]
Ahmed is currently on bail in the United Kingdom but faces potential arrest or extradition proceedings after failing to appear for a scheduled bail response, claiming poor health prevented him from traveling.[1] Greater Manchester Police had previously attempted to restrict his travel abroad, though a judge rejected this request.[1] Despite these legal proceedings, Ahmed was re-elected as a member of parliament in Pakistan's recent general election and now belongs to the political party of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.[1] According to public records, Ahmed is a social media figure with over 17,000 Facebook followers and was previously an owner of the Gujjar Palace restaurant.[1]
