Former Australian broadcaster Alan Jones is facing trial on charges of sexual misconduct, with court proceedings shrouded in strict confidentiality orders.[1] A prosecution witness, identified only as J, testified that Jones engaged in unwanted sexual harassment during J's late teenage years, including unsolicited kissing, indecent assault, and coerced sexual acts.[1] Jones has denied all allegations.[1]
According to the witness's account, Jones first met J during his mid-teenage years and subsequently provided him with weekly payments of several hundred dollars for training, as well as a car and mobile phone.[1] J did not report the allegations to police until 2024, decades after the incidents allegedly occurred, after reading media reports about Jones being charged with indecent assault.[1] The trial is currently proceeding through cross-examination, with Justice Glenn Walsh having issued a suppression order that will be reviewed upon completion of cross-examination.[1]
Access to the courtroom has been restricted to accredited media organizations only, and journalists are prohibited from reporting the substance of the proceedings under the suppression order.[1]
