Two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 57-year-old grandmother in Queensland, Australia.[1] Clinton Travis Oliver, 45, and Braydon Franklin, 35, were convicted by a jury of murdering Donna Louise Howe on Mother's Day 2022 in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, and subsequently burning her remains.[1] The judge described their actions as "callous and barbaric" and characterized the violence as "extreme cowardice."[1]
Oliver and Franklin were found guilty of both murder and interfering with a corpse.[1] Howe's body was discovered on June 7, 2022, in Beerburrum, in the Glass House Mountains region approximately one hour north of Brisbane.[1] Both men received life sentences with a non-parole period of 21 years, meaning Oliver will be eligible for parole in June 2043 and Franklin in November 2044.[1] The five-year sentence for interfering with the corpse will be served concurrently with the murder conviction.[1] Two other individuals, Cassie Ann Reid and Chelsea Butterworth, pleaded guilty to accessory charges related to their involvement after the crime.[1]
